SHARED GREEN DEAL's core goal is to stimulate shared actions on Green Deal initiatives across Europe, by providing Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) tools to support the Implementation of 8 EU Green Deal policy areas, at the local and regional level.
SHARED GREEN DEAL is structured around lessons from a set of 24 social experiments that target six specific priority Green Deal topics (Clean Energy, Circular Economy, Efficient Renovations, Sustainable Mobility, Sustainable Food, Preserving Biodiversity), all of which contribute to the climate action and zero pollution ambitions of the Green Deal.
Atnaujinkime miestą (Let's renovate the city) has been selected for Effective Renovation stream, which will develop local knowledge networks to share information and skills between citizens and professionals in Vilnius City. A total of four such networks will be created and focus on urban and rural energy poverty across different locations in Europe.
Like in most European countries, there is a major renovation backlog in Lithuania and Vilnius About 70% of the multi-apartment buildings in Vilnius were built before 1993 and are home to 330,000 residents of the city. These buildings are in great need of renovation as they are both aesthetically unattractive and have low energy efficiency ratings. The current building conditions and the high household expenses associated with heating put residents at risk of energy poverty.
Since the main challenges are related to the active participation of the residents and managers of the buildings, the social experiment in Vilnius will focus on creating spaces for exchange that will enable the involvement of the public and private sectors and homeowners. The network will hold regular meetings and events, in order to reach a common understanding of the importance of energy-efficient renovation of residential blocks and exchange know-how and skills for the implementation of renovation processes.
